Shubman Gill upset with umpire

Indian skipper Shubman Gill has subjected himself to some penalty from the ICC after his recent altercation with the on-field umpires on day 2 of the Lord's Test. England at lunch scored 353 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets inside the first hour of play on day 2. Joe Root was dismissed shortly after scoring his 11th Test century against India and his eighth at loss.

Bumrah dismissed Ben Stokes before him and Chris Woakes after him with Bumrah picking three in the first session. Since then, Jamie Smith (51 runs off 53 balls) and Bryon Carse (33 runs off 62 balls) have added 82 runs off 106 balls.

Shubman Gill's Animated Reaction To On-Field Umpire's Decision

Meanwhile, after the first hour, the Duke's ball went softer which is when Shubman Gill requested the umpires for a ball-change. Initially, the umpires denied his request and finally, the ball was changed as it went through the gauge.

On day 1 the new ball was taken in the 80th over and it lasted for just 20 overs before India had to change the ball again. Though the umpires agreed on changing the ball which eventually happened, Gill was unhappy as the umpires gave him an older ball instead of a new one.

The Indian skipper was quick to show his disagreement with the decision and in the process, might have landed up in trouble. He even made a few animated gestures expressing his anger and disagreement.

Gill might have violated Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct as he showed dissent at the umpire's decision during the match.

"The article states that a player is guilty for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match. This includes any form of visible disagreement or objection to a decision made by an umpire. A breach of this article can result in penalties, including reprimands, fines, and demerit points"
